Not everyone can afford a champagne budget for welcoming and newborn. Mothers on a budget find themselves to be  abit stressed out on what to buy vs what they really need. We all know that the baby paraphernalia can be very expensive and if not carefully thought out, can leave you with hundreds of dollars spend on things you only used once or never used. As far as baby toys/swings/cribs and changing are concerned, if you are on a budget try and locate mother’s groups in your area that are willing to lend out some of these things or another option is to visit second hand baby stores that guarantee these items for a fraction of a price. DON’T get caught up on the looks, but seek out what seems functional.

Below are some of the  things that you must have:

hey list of must-haves:

  • Diapers
  • wipes
  • shampoo and body wash and baby lotion
  • washcloths
  • towels
  • diaper rash cream
  • mother’s nipple cream(i recommend lansinoh)
  • breastfeeding bra pads
  • nursing bras
  • breast pump( If you’ll be leaving your child with a caregiver), but buy this after you give birth just because you want to make sure you have enough milk, cause if you don’t then formula will take its place, breast pumps are expensive so that’s why), if you do end up having to buy one or rent one from the hospital, you need breastmilk bottles and packages to save the milk in…
  • thermometer, nail clippers, nasal syringe
  • cotton wipes or cotton wool
  • bassinet crib sheets
  • receiving blankets
  • socks
  • lots of onsies, long sleeves and short sleeves
  • pyjamas and some clothes, now make sure you buy different sizes, buy very few newborn sizes cause they grow so fast, focus on 3mons and up and 6 mons and up
  • bathtub
  • bibs, lots of bibs
  • burp cloths
  • car seat
  • stroller
  • hand sanitzer( make sure people sanitize their hands before they hold your baby, especially if its a newborn)
  • diaper bag( it should consist of diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, thermometer, diaper changing mat, change of clothers, pacifiers if your baby needs some, your nipple cream, extra breastfeeding  bra pads for you, hand sanitizer, sun hat or winter hat depending on the weather, a few baby toys, bibs and burp clothes)
  • breastfeeding pillow( make sure you take this to the hospital, its a great breastfeeding tool)
  • breastfeeding discreet cloth( its at target, you put it on your neck to cover the baby and you while you breastfeed… instead of exposing yourself to the whole world while you breastfeed.. its like $9.
  • infant motrin (you don’t want to be caught off guard when baby is not well in some wee hours… always consult your dr before dispensing any medication to baby)

so that’s the must-have list so far….  hope this helps….
